2014 Exploring The Northwest – DAY 7/8
The weather on Friday was intermittent rain so focused on our weekly ‘provisioning’: grocery store, propane, fuel, chocolate, laundry, huckleberry preserve, etc.
Today, we packed our backpacks with lunch and foul weather gear and headed for Logan Pass. We used the park’s shuttle bus system to get there. I was able to watch the incredible scenery instead of driving and keeping my eyes glued to the road in survival mode. As we arrived at the Logan Pass ranger station, the weather was foul: high winds, rain/sleet, and low temperature – wind chill factor of 40 degrees and WET. We stayed in the station until it passed and then started our trek to Hidden Lake. The scenery was breathtaking. Another storm was approaching so we cut our walk short and instead enjoyed our picnic in the mountain setting. Then a fast pace back to the shelter of the ranger station – GREAT timing, we made it back just as the storm hit.
On our way down from Logan Pass, we experienced a bonus – two black bear cubs playing on and next to the road. We spotted the mama bear further up the side of the road, busy eating berries while keeping an eye on her cubs.
