Today marks the third day of our trip. Over the years of traveling, we found the third day to be the roughest. The body goes through one last gasp of not wanting to change to the new time zone; the addreninal rush from the excitement of arriving at a place you’ve long anticipated, begins to wear off; and finally, the body begins to rebel against all that great new, rich food you’ve tasted in huge quantities.
Well, this day was no exception. Here is a quick summary:
Gregory and Mitchell had the worst night’s sleep – not getting more than a couple of hours of sleep.
Greg left his iPhone in the taxi. Panic! With the help of our hotel’s staff, we scrambled to contact the driver and to ask him to return to the train station. That cost Greg an extra $25, but he has his phone.
Greg’s camera stopped working. Thanks to our resident technical support person [Roselie], the problem was quickly resolved.
Our first day of travel by train taxed our foggy, sleep deprived brains. Figuring out where to find our train, finding the right car and where to sit, and dealing with our luggage, was a real challenge. Over a lapsed travel time of about 3 hours, we used a combination of 5 trains and cable cars to reach Murren.
Given the hurry and anxiousness of getting on board our first train ride, we lost each other. Contributing to the chaos was a large group teenage students from San Diego – pushing and dropping their luggage everywhere while their leaders where yelling out orders and directions. The fact that some of us were sitting in rail cars reserved for this group made it even more challenging. After a half hour of walking through most of the rail cars, we found each other and settled into great seats in an empty car.
HOWEVER, we discovered that Roselie should never sit backwards or sideways to the direction of travel. Mitchell should not sit traveling sideways.
Checking the departure board! Where is our train?

This is such fun!
The good news is that we did find our rhythm. We established team work. We could switch trains within just a few minutes, and to manage our luggage efficiently.
Finally a good ride!
Murren is a small, ski village, located on a mountain ridge in the Jungfrau region of the canton Bern. It’s about 200 Km from Zurich and is across the valley from the well-known Grindelwalden area. Murren can only be reached by cable cars.
Our home for two nights: Hotel Eiger
They say pigs can’t fly. Well, it looks like Swiss pigs can.

SchwartzenMonch across the valley
Our hotel is located in a beautiful setting. We have a great view out our window and our porch. The clouds give it an eerie feeling, and have prevented us from seeing the three key mountains across the valley: Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger. We’re hoping the weather will clear tomorrow.
