Day 37 – Charleston, Oregon

2014 Exploring The Northwest – DAY 37 – Charleston and Coos Bay

Today we start the preparatory stage to leaving the coast and to return home. There are only a handful of roads that run from the coast to central Oregon. The last one starts at Coos Bay. The next opportunity would be in northern California. Coos Bay is a fairly large, spread-out town with very little of interest to see. Instead we went a little further south and camped at a small county park near Charleston – a quaint little campground on a bluff overlooking the ocean.

The Charleston village consists of only a dozen shops and restaurants. The key business is an oyster farm, but it was closed for the day. Since it was Monday, we decided to have dinner at the only sports bar in town, to watch the Monday Night Football game, and to see how our Fantasy Football teams were doing.
