2014 Exploring The Northwest – DAY 19 – Back to the USA
Today we crossed the border back to the USA. We made sure we followed all the regulations regarding fresh produce. They did inspect the contents of our trailers.
It was a relatively easy drive-day. We are camped overnight at a Washington Sate campground near Winthrop, Washington. The town looks like an old western town with wooden buildings and store fronts – straight out of a John Wayne movie. It is a very popular tourist town.
The terrain during our drive was quite different from what we had experienced – very dry – almost desert-like. This area is known as the dry [eastern] side of the Cascade Mountains. Tomorrow we will make the transition to the wet side.
We also encountered a plethora of old cars – 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s – Fords, Chevys, Plymouths, etc. Some were restored and driven around, while others looked like they had been left in the field for the last 30 years. We saw a 1938 Ford, on a flat-bed trailer, for a mere $500 – including the trailer. Vintage cars must be a cultural thing in this part of Washington. Thanks to Carmine’s vast knowledge of old cars, we identified all.
