2014 Exploring The Northwest – DAY 18 – Travel to Kelowna
It was a beautiful, white morning in Lake Louise. Marcel woke up everyone by playing “Winterland” and Christmas music over our Walkie-Talkies. It is cold [29 degrees] and icy. Trying to break camp was somewhat of a challenge. We had to use hot water on some of the truck locks and doors because they were frozen shut. Carmine left his portable table outside last night, so he had to chip off all the ice with the flat of an ax. Next he tried to retract his trailer’s slide-out but discovered that ice had jammed it in the open position.
The fun continues as we tried to fill up on fresh water – just as we were ready to turn on the water, the Rangers turned off all water and removed all water spigots – frozen pipes.
We finally got underway and said good-by to Marcel and Sandi as they were leaving on their one-week trip back to Utah. Our route out of the Banff National Park, heading west and south to the USA border that involved making it through two snow-covered passes . We drove through Glacier National Park [no relationship to our Glacier National Park] . The diversity of the scenery was incredible – snow covered mountains and trees, beautiful valleys with rivers, many lakes and rolling farmlands. Dropping in altitude, it began to warm up to a pleasant 65 degrees. Travel was slow as we passed through many British Columbia towns and villages. We overnighted at a Provincial Park near Kelowna, on one of the many lakes.
